CHICAGO, December 18, 2008 - President-elect Obama has announced one of the priorities of his new administration will be to repair and modernize the educational infrastructure in America.

Sagus International, a Chicago-based company, has taken a lead role in transforming the classroom environment to improve educational results by donating its time and products to two local, Chicago schools. Sagus worked with architects and educators to develop an ideal environment for student learning.

The documentary video, viewable on the Sagus Web site, demonstrates a transformation of classrooms at high performing Walter Payton College Prep and reconstituted Harper High School on Chicago’s South Side. The video features include:

  • Comments from Arne Duncan, CEO, Chicago Public Schools and Secretary of Education nominee.
  • Observations from teachers and school principals
  • Reactions from students
  • Visual impact of classroom transformation
Sagus International has corporate headquarters in Chicago and factories in Chicago, Minneapolis and Temple, Texas. While Sagus is involved in education worldwide, its primary emphasis is on America’s kindergarten through 12th grade.

For over 40 years, Sagus has supplied furnishings to America’s classrooms and is now pulling together all of its company resources to transform learning in America to improve educational results. Additionally, Sagus has sought industry-leading partners to participate in this process. For this project, key Sagus partners include:
  • eInstruction™ (educational technology and assessment)
  • 3M (educational technology)
  • Legat Architects (classroom and school design)
Sagus has also engaged nationally and internationally with ergonomists, designers, educators and administrators to develop products and solutions that will enhance educational results.

Sagus views this as a continual journey and will be engaging with additional schools and industry partners in a quest to totally transforming the education environment in a manner that will allow students and educators to be more effective as they engage with each other to better compete in an ever-increasing, world wide, global environment.
