Rosser serves as Principal for a Day at Top Illinois School

October 30, 2009 (Chicago, IL) – Darryl Rosser, CEO of Sagus International, was one of more than 1,400 volunteers who served as a Principal for a Day yesterday in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS).  He served at Walter Payton College Preparatory School.

Mayor Richard M. Daley initiated the Principal for a Day (PFAD) program in 1998 in an effort to encourage the civic and corporate communities of the Chicago area to adopt and support individual schools.

“One of the most successful programs we have for broadening support for our school system is “Principal for a Day,” he said. “I want to encourage our community groups, not-for-profits and faith-based groups, parents, grandparents and friends of our students to step up and help our school system keep moving forward.”

PFAD allows businesses and organizations the opportunity to visit a CPS school and shadow the principal to increase public awareness of the accomplishments and challenges at CPS.

Mr. Rosser spent the day shadowing the school’s actual principal, Ellen Estrada.  He addressed faculty and staff through the PA system and was assigned a student to work with for the day.  “Walter Payton College Prep. is an amazing school. I am always impressed with the enthusiasm, quality, and diversity of the students and the learning environment. Beyond the students, Ellen and her staff do an amazing job of creating the educational environment that allows students to reach their fullest potential,” said Rosser. "It was a tremendous experience for me to have the opportunity to serve in this honorary capacity for the day.” This week Walter Payton College Prep. was declared the highest performing school in Illinois, based on rankings of various standard tests.

A luncheon hosted by the Mayor for participants concluded the day’s activities.

“Our students are the future of our city. We want to encourage business and civic leaders to contribute further to this future by working with our schools in areas such as career education and job creation,” Mayor Daley said.
